A Passion for Teaching, Performance and Life!
Simply, Spotlight is a performing arts school. But there's more to it than that.
Digging in a bit deeper, we are a collection of professionals and students who love practicing the craft of performing arts. Although initially a dance school, today you will find acting, musical theater, theater arts, etc, all happening in our studios.
In addition to our talented and dedicated resident faculty, you will find master classes and intensives taught by world class performers and teachers including Martha Graham Company, Lisa Hopkins (Steps on Broadway, Pace, NYSO), Cady Huffman (Tony Winner), Abraham.In.Motion, Alan Langdon (Circle in the Square Theater School), Larry Crabtree, Andrew Chappelle (Hamilton), Derek Grant, Max Pollack, Michelle Dorrance, just to name a few.
Understanding Dance and Performing Arts Education
As a parent, you play an important role in supporting your child financially, but your emotional support is of equal... and perhaps even greater value. Encourage your child to be the best that he or she can be regardless of what others may achieve. Dance and performing arts are individual art forms in that children need to be allowed to achieve at a pace that's comfortable for them. No two students will progress at the same rate even if they experience the exact same training. It's important to encourage children to focus on themselves, give their all, and be satisfied with their own accomplishments. Doing so will engender a passion to become the best they can be.
Education at Spotlight encompasses far more than the acting, singing or dance technique students learn. We believe the discipline of our training gives young people a better understanding of commitment through learning, experiencing the spirit of teamwork and discovering what they can accomplish through hard work. Our goal is to educate the minds, bodies and souls of our students, teaching them the skills needed for a successful life, whether or not they stay involved with dance or theater.
We could brag how fabulous our staff and faculty are but we'd rather you experience it yourself. We will tell you a few things about them though...
- They are Great Teachers - It doesn't matter to us if they were a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, in a Broadway Show or in an Usher video. If they're not great teachers, you won't find them at Spotlight. Our faculty know how to teach. Some have more of a gift for teaching kids, some toddlers, some adults. You'll find them in the right place at Spotlight.
- They're Happy - They like being at Spotlight because we respect and value them. You can't get and keep the best teachers if you don't do those two things.
- They understand that different students have different goals and learn at different rates and will adjust accordingly.
